The Peruvian Indians, the Quechuas, 2000 years ago knew how to preserve meat by drying. The word "jerky" is derived from the Quechua word "chh'arki', which means burned/dried, salted meat.
This preservation method is found in many cultures, from prehistoric times up to the present day. The Mongols also applied and dried their meat called "borc" (the Hungarian "pörc").In South Africa, for example, "biltong" is derived from the same principle. At the beginning of the 19th century, Dutch, German, and French migrants changed the seasonings which are still used today. The North American Indians dried meat from hunted wild game (deer, bear, bison, and fish), not only by the sun and breeze but also by the fire, keeping away flies and insects from the raw meat. Thus it was even better preserved, and could at the same time have a nice smoky flavor.
The equestrian nations of the Carpathian basin also practiced this ancient way of preserving meat. In the middle of the 14th century, during his Italian campaign, King Louis the Great’s army carried dried food. As Villani wrote about them, they did not have to go into the big cities, but they were preparing (cooking and drying) their meals outdoors on open fires in cooking pots. "...after slaughtering the cattle, its beef was slowly cooked in large pots. If the meat was cooked and salted enough, the meat was detached from the bones and dried in the oven, and then reduced to a fine powder..." This "beef powder" was used for quick meals by just adding hot water to it
Today, the manufacture of Jerky is strictly regulated regarding the flavoring, cooking, and drying as well as the packing under protective gas processes. This beef snack was primarily popular in the United States, but nowadays can be found in more and more places in European countries, including Hungary, where we have started the first production. The Red Line Beef Jerky is produced from first-class Hungarian beef using different seasonings. Our Jerky is free from Flavor Enhancers (MSG), low in fat and carbohydrate. It is a ready-to-eat a high-protein snack.
Considering its 53% protein content, our Jerky is ideal for protein supplementation as it is essential to know what kind of protein intake we are using. It is not enough to introduce enough protein in our bodies, it is also important to know what kind of proteins are eaten. There are 20 amino acids in a protein, but Leucine is the most important one, as this is responsible for the protection of the muscles and the human body cannot produce this protein itself. Leucine can be found in larger amounts in foods of animal origin, like beef. The utilization efficiency of this kind of food protein is much higher than other sources of proteins.
Our Red Line Beef Jerky contains important vitamins such as vitamin B2, B6, D3, and E vitamin, as well as the Zn, Fe, K, Ca, and Mg minerals. It is a low-fat and low-carb product, compatible with healthy, weight loss, and diabetic diets. Carry it with you wherever you go, because it can fit in a small space and is extremely tasty!
